Six days, ten hours, and three minutes. Tivik died five days ago – a human with the rebellion in his bones due to family ties. It was never his fight, but Cassian always respected someone who fought when they truly didn’t need to. When someone like Tivik would’ve been safer Topside ; rebuking anything that he knew about the family Underground. Tivik’s family was a group of magic users, even if the male hadn’t inherited their gift. The man didn’t need to help Cassian the way he had, but he had. And now there was no way for Cassian to thank him.
Tivik had been shot down Topside by a handful of Government branded hunters. Cassian not only mourned for a friend – because, as selfish as it sounded if he were to admit it aloud – he mourned for his own livelihood. He would not hunt, that was beyond him.
When he still retained true humanity, he would not have understood the hunger that was present when a vampire went too long without feeding. It wasn’t the twist of a stomach, hollow and painful. The closest he could come to describing it was like the ebbing withdraws of addiction – except, there was no cure for him if he went without aside from death. A slow and painful one, at that. He had never seen a Vampire die from starvation, but – he had heard stories. And he was not keen on living them out himself.
Six days, and his hands twisted in front of him as he paced his quarters for lack of better things to sate his mind when the pulsing hunger was the only thing on it – eclipsing thoughts of anything else until it ate into his brain and threatened to consume him. Typically darker hued skin was verging on the wrong end of pale for his complexion, chocolate hues sunken in – if he were human, one might think he was sick; greasy locks of hair drooping into his vision to the point where he had stopped shoving them back.
There’s a heartbeat, and he inhales so sharply that it burns – as if he had inhaled vervain; sliding down his throat until their beat pulsed in his ears like a cadence. The flow blood in their veins a surround sound in his system, swallowing thickly as he takes a few steps back – making more distance between himself and the door before it’s opening.
“ Mako, you should not be here. “@sworduser
THERE IS SLIGHT HESITATION RESONATING IN HER as she stood before the door, hand hovering over the handle as she dived deep into the thoughts of her own conflicted mind. despite not being a magical creature or a magic user, mako had many friends who were before the handicap law was put into place. the cruel injustice that was placed on her friends led to many of their deaths, & it was something she could not simply stand by & withstand. hence, why she joined the rebellion —— to fight against this law & hopefully bring it to an end so those who were different could express themselves fully. being human, mako did not have any sort of super-human strength of magic that could be of use to help in their cause. however, she was very well trained in the art of martial arts & would train many of the rebellion recruits on how to defend themselves if they were to come across government officials during any missions taken topside. she & cassian knew each other in passing, but had never worked exclusively together. considering cassian’s status as an unregistered vampire, it made more sense for him to work underground while she worked up above. regardless, she was always very impressed by the work he did in order to help their efforts —— her respect for him carried to the highest esteem.
UNLIKE THE REBELLION, who did not promote the use of violence in their efforts, the claw was a whole different story. their efforts were much more sinister, unafraid to use their abilities in more violent efforts —— their unified group more like a militia hellbent on taking down the handicap law, as well as innocent humans ; turning them into their own image. mako soon became of interest to the group, as she proved to be a powerful adversary despite being nothing more than a mere human. the training she provided to the rebellion allowed them to fend off members of the claw with ease, provoking the interest of those who may want to bring her to their side & genetically enhance her —— her already strong prowess multiplied tenfold. earlier that day, they would have succeeded in kidnapping her during one of her topside missions had cassian not stepped in to save her. it was risky to stand up against members of the claw, as well as come up topside despite his unregistered status. but luckily they made it out alive, & mako was able to fight another day. she was incredibly grateful for his actions, wanting to repay him the favor in some way. but how ? —— which now brings her back to standing before his doorway, finally finding the courage to turn the knob & opening the door.
“ I KNOW. & I DON’T CARE. “ steady breath leaves her as she rejects his warnings, timid step taken as she slowly progresses her way closer to the undead creature ; taking note in his disheveled appearance. it was no secret to anyone that cassian was surviving on the offered blood of tivik, who unfortunately lost his life over a week ago. now with his sudden passing, mako wasn’t quite sure how long the vampire had until the lack of blood would soon swallow him whole, eradicating him of his immortal life. he would either need to hunt or find a new host to take from, & his time on this earth was dwindling. there’s a lump in her throat as she approaches closer, a hand gripping at her own wrist as thumb gently strokes across her pulse —— it was racing. “ you can’t keep going on like this cass, “ she whispers gently, tone dripping with worry. “ what you did for me today —— i will never forget. the claw would have turned me into —— god, who knows what they would have done. but i’m so grateful you came when you did. i owe you my life. “ she paused, bottom lip taken in between her teeth as she contemplates her next set of words. delicate hands would gently brush the strands of matted hair from his vision, offering him a hesitant smile as her voice drops to a low whisper.
“ —— cassian. i want to offer myself to you. drink from me. “
